Okay, so I’ve been wanting a good way to store my necklaces and earrings, and I finally decided to just make my own jewelry box. And I wanted it to lock, because, well, you know, gotta keep the good stuff safe!

First, I gathered all my materials. I already had some thin wood pieces from a previous project, so I used those. I also grabbed some hinges, a small latch, a tiny lock and key, some wood glue, sandpaper, and some pretty fabric for the inside.

I started by figuring out the size I wanted. I just kinda eyeballed it, honestly. I laid out my necklaces and figured out how big the box needed to be to fit them without tangling too much. Then, I cut the wood pieces to the right sizes for the top, bottom, and sides.

Next, I sanded down all the edges. Nobody wants splinters, right? I made sure everything was nice and smooth.

Then came the assembly. I carefully applied wood glue to the edges and stuck the sides together, forming the basic box shape. I used some clamps to hold everything in place while the glue dried. It took a while, so I just left it overnight.

Once the glue was totally dry, I attached the hinges to the back of the box and the lid. This was a bit tricky, I had to make sure everything was lined up perfectly so the lid would close properly.I messed up the first time by not lining the hinges to make it close smoothly, so I have to removed and reattached it again!

After the hinges were on, I installed the latch on the front. This was easier than the hinges, thankfully. Then, I tested out the little lock to make sure it worked with the latch. All good!

The inside needed some love, so I cut pieces of that pretty fabric I had and glued them to the inside of the box. I made sure to cover all the wood so my jewelry wouldn’t get scratched.I used a velvet-like one because it feels so good!

Finally, I added some small dividers inside to keep things organized. I just used some extra pieces of wood and glued them in place.

And that’s it! My very own locking jewelry box. It’s not perfect, but I made it, and it keeps my jewelry safe and organized. I’m pretty proud of it, to be * feels good to made something with my hand!
