So, I’ve been messing around with this crazy project lately, right? It’s called the “Palace of Bubbles.” Sounds kinda nuts, I know, but stick with me here. I first heard about this place, which is like, the third bubble house by this guy Lovag, and it’s way up high in Théoule-sur-Mer, just a hop away from Cannes. Fancy, huh?
I got this wild idea to try and recreate it somehow. I mean, it’s this insane structure overlooking the bay of Cannes, designed by Antti Lovag. The guy thinks of architecture as a game—spontaneous and joyful, you know? That really got me thinking.
First thing I did was to dig up everything I could find about it. Pictures, articles, whatever. Turns out, it was built between ’79 and ’89, perched on a cliff, looking out at the Mediterranean. The place has this massive reception hall and even an open-air amphitheater. I was hooked. I had to make something like this happen, at least a version of it.
I started sketching, trying to get the hang of the bubble shapes. It’s not as easy as it looks, man. These aren’t just any circles; they’re like, organically placed and they all flow together. I spent days just drawing bubbles, trying different arrangements.
- Gathering Materials: I gathered materials which is suitable for me.
- Sketching: Sketching the “bubbles” was tough, took a few days to practice.
- Building: I started with a large bubble for the main area and kept adding smaller ones around it. I made sure they were all connected, just like the real deal.
Then came the actual building part. I decided to make a small model. I started with a large bubble for the main area and kept adding smaller ones around it. I made sure they were all connected, just like the real deal. It was a slow process. Each bubble had to be shaped and attached carefully. I wanted it to look right, to feel like Lovag’s design.
Crafting the Model
After a ton of work, I finally had a mini “Palace of Bubbles.” It’s not perfect, but it captures the essence of Lovag’s vision, I think. It’s playful, it’s unique, and it’s definitely a conversation starter. Seeing it all come together, it was a good feeling. Like I actually made something special.
This whole project, it’s been a wild ride. From learning about Lovag’s ideas to getting my hands dirty with the model, it’s been a blast. And you know what? I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s a little piece of architectural fun, right here in my room.
So yeah, that’s the story of my “Palace of Bubbles” adventure. Hope you guys found it as interesting as I did. It’s not every day you get to build a bubble palace, right?
