Okay, so last night I was watering my plants on the porch when suddenly—wham!—got bit like four times by mosquitos. Those little jerks always find me. Woke up this morning scratching like crazy, you know how it is. Red bumps everywhere, super itchy. Couldn’t focus on making coffee even.

Then I remembered something my cousin mentioned ages ago about clear nail polish helping with bites. Sounded totally weird to me, like why would varnish do anything? But hey, desperate times. Dug through my junk drawer and found this half-dried bottle of clear polish. Figured worst case, I’d just have shiny bug bites.

Got a cotton swab first and gently cleaned one bite near my elbow—didn’t wanna trap dirt under the polish. Shook that bottle hard for like 20 seconds since the stuff was gloopy. Dabbed just a tiny dot right on the center of the bump. Felt cold and sticky for a second. Let it air-dry while I made my toast.

No joke, maybe five minutes later? The itch on that one spot just… stopped. Like magic. Usually I’m scratching raw for hours, but the polish spot felt like a normal patch of skin. Didn’t even get that scratch-urge. Did the rest of my bites same way—tiny dots, don’t slather it.

Checked again after lunch: zero itching on all polished spots, but the two bites I skipped were still driving me nuts. Ended up polishing those too. Lasted all day without scratching. Skin’s a bit dry where I applied it, but that beats bloody scabs any day.

How does it work? My guess is it seals off the bite from air or something? Not sure, but honestly who cares when it stops the scratching circus. Cheap as dirt solution for mosquito season.
