Putting Together That Vintage Look with AE Stuff
Alright, so I got this idea in my head, wanted to put together a sort of vintage outfit. Not like, super old-timey, but you know, that comfy, worn-in look. And American Eagle popped into my mind. I’ve got some older pieces from them, and their new stuff sometimes hits that vibe too. So, I started digging.
First thing, I went through my closet. Pulled out a couple pairs of AE jeans I haven’t worn in a bit. One pair was those looser, straight-leg ones, kind of light wash. They felt right, you know? Not skinny jeans, definitely more relaxed. That felt like a good starting point for the vintage feel. Found another pair, darker wash, bit distressed, but decided the lighter ones had more of that classic look I was aiming for.
Next up was the top. This took a bit more thought. I shuffled through some t-shirts. Had an old AE graphic tee, slightly faded, which was a contender. Also found a plain, soft henley. But then I remembered a flannel shirt I got from them ages ago. It’s not super thick, kinda soft and worn. Checked the colors, red and black plaid, classic stuff. Decided that over the graphic tee felt more layered and, well, vintage-y for the day.
Finding the Right Pieces
So, I had the main parts:
- Bottoms: The light-wash, straight-leg AE jeans.
- Top: That old red and black AE flannel shirt.
I tried them on together. The jeans fit loose, like I wanted. Felt comfortable, not sloppy. I decided to wear the flannel open, needed something underneath. Went back to the drawer and grabbed a simple white AE t-shirt I had. Nothing fancy, just a plain crew neck. It worked perfectly as a base layer under the open flannel.
Looked in the mirror. Yeah, it was coming together. The silhouette felt right – looser jeans, layered top. It wasn’t trying too hard, just felt natural, like clothes people actually wore back then, you know? Comfort was key.
Finishing Touches
For shoes, I just grabbed my regular worn-in sneakers. Nothing flashy, kept it simple. Didn’t feel like adding much else. Maybe a simple watch, but no big accessories. The whole point was that easygoing, slightly retro style.
So yeah, that was basically the process. Started with an idea, dug through what I already owned from American Eagle, picked pieces based on fit and feel – specifically looking for looser cuts and classic patterns. Layered it up a bit with the flannel and tee combo. Ended up with a look that felt pretty authentic to that vintage vibe I was going for, using mostly AE stuff I already had kicking around. Pretty happy with how it turned out, honestly. Felt comfortable all day.
